Meet Hermie....Delaney's newest pet, the hermit crab (duh). You know you can't take these kids anywhere without acquiring a new pet of some sort. It seems we've tried them all...kittens, African dwarf frogs, parakeets, but alas we have never had a hermit crab and they were all cute looking in the store with their brightly painted shells. Delaney forked over her $12.95 for said crab while I was grilling the poor salesclerk on the life of a hermit crab and how in the ham sandwich am I supposed to keep this thing alive. And yes, while it is technically Delaney's crab, you know I will be the one to make sure this little guy doesn't go off to crab heaven before he's "supposed" to. Basically, make sure the darn sponge in his cage never dries out or that spells out t-r-o-u-b-l-e for little Hermie. We've even given him a few baths which he obviously loves as it's the only time I ever really get to see the crab out of his shell. Hee, hee. Anyhoo, I admit it, I think he's kinda cute. He is also clearly a boy crab as he's sporting his Spiderman shell. Delaney, being the older responsible child that she is, went ahead and purchased his next shell, because according to the salesclerk he'll need a bigger shell when he outgrows this shell. Hmmm. So, Delaney picked out a pale pink shell with a flower painted on it. "Don't you think this could be upsetting for a boy crab to have to wear pink?" She ignored me as the salesclerk continued to ring up her purchases. Maybe when the switch happens we'll rename him to Hermetta or something along those lines.
