The Cutting Edge...

OMG! Can you buh-lieve how stinking cute ice skates can be on a 6 year old? Seriously. Cute. Today, for the first time ever, Delaney and I attempted ice skating. Yes. I too have never been ice skating. Mostly because I really suck at rollerblading and I thought it would be a similar if not harder experience. Boy was I right. For those interested, I also happen to suck at ice skating. The only thing that kept me from busting my ass repeatedly today was the fact that Delaney and I were holding hands about 90% of the time and any time she would start the one-arm flap I would yank her back to her skates before she would eat it. I can't say I saved her every time but certainly did my best. For the first 2-3 laps around the rink, we were both hugging the wall. I'd like to think of that wall as a security blanket. I had a hard time saying good-bye. Eventually I thought I should quit making an ass of myself and let Delaney hold the wall with one hand while holding my other hand. Which means I had no wall and no security. It didn't help that little 3 year olds were whizzing past us at ridiculous speeds. Show offs. Nonetheless, we survived today and by the end, I was impressed at how much solo skating Delaney was doing and at a semi-quick pace. She had a great time and can't wait to go back! And while I too had a great time, my ankles were practically weeping as we left. Who knew it takes a lot of "ankle strength" to pull off that shindig? I can already hear Doug's "I told you so" speech. I look forward to seeing his abilities.

Christmas at Nana's....

The 3 Amigos (Hadley, Carter & Delaney) My girls sure do love their cousin!

The kids never get tired of making silly faces. This one really cracked me up!

Hadley & her favorite uncle Chris

I am thankful for today. I am thankful for these people. No matter what happens in this family, I will love them to the ends of the earth. Merry Christmas....

Play date with Hadley

Hadley has wasted no time in getting Oliver acclimated to how we roll around here. Despite the fact that we're coaching her daily on how to properly hold him (NOT by his neck), the crazy kitty seems to really like her. I daresay maybe even love her.

Oliver

Meet Oliver. Our new kitty! Because I am a woman of my word, exactly one year later, we are trying again (never mind the fact that Delaney has reminded me every single week for the past year that we can get a new kitty in December before Christmas). So we decided to return to the shelter that we adopted our sweet dog Buddy from, the Cobb County Animal Shelter. Delaney found the noisiest kitten available and said, "I want this one! He needs us mommy!" So after giving Oliver the third degree and all but sifting through his cat box to make sure his poop was firm and not odd looking, we slapped our $30 down and got the hell out of there before I could change my mind. Which I've done three times in the past two weeks. Seriously. I had cold feet like no body's business. Nonetheless, our little Oli (as only I like to call him) is a joy. I forgot how effing adorable kittens can be. I also forgot that I have to watch where I'm walking constantly so I don't step on the poor kitten and crush him. All 1.6 ounces of him.

Gingerbread house

As you can see, the girls delightfully decorated their pre-assembled gingerbread house. And boy how I love the pre-assembled part! Now, if I could just figure out a way to keep certain people from eating all the decorations.
